Spartanburg, South Carolina BMW's only production facility in the United States, and its first full manufacturing facility outside Germany, is BMW Manufacturing Corp. in Spartanburg, SC. Here is where all of the world's roadsters and X5 Sports Activity Vehicles are created. BMW Manufacturing Corp. builds Z4s and X5s in a 2.3 million square foot plant that employs more than 4,700 associates. Since its construction in 1993, the plant has invested more than $2 billion to meet ever-increasing demands from over 100 countries. The BMW Zentrum Museum is the 28,000 square-foot visitors center that symbolizes BMW's heritage of engineering excellence and innovation, as well as BMW Manufacturing's role as an active corporate citizen. The Zentrum is open 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Guided tours of the factory begin at the Zentrum and are available Tuesday through Friday at 10:00 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. Reservations are required and tour visitors must be 12 years of age or older. More than mere features or options, safety is integral to the entire design and structure of the vehicle. While most vehicle manufacturers are satisfied with crash protection, BMWs are engineered with active safety systems for accident prevention. With the protection integrated active and passive safety systems provide, you can enjoy the thrill of driving with confidence. Active Knee Protection Active Knee Protection is a special airbag designed to protect front-seat occupants knees in the event of a severe impact. It also reduces the amount of dash space that would have been taken up by a knee-protection system using dash-padding only. Frontal-Offset Crash Test As reported on Dateline NBC, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has rated the BMW 5 Series Best Pick for its performance in the frontal-offset crash test. This test, which involves driving at 40 mph into a barrier that impacts only the drivers side of the front end, is one of the most severe measures of a vehicles ability to protect its occupants. Head Protection System (HPS) BMW's Head Protection System is an inflatable tubular structure to protect the heads of a vehicle's front and rear seat occupants. Operating in conjunction with the side airbags, the system provides front seat occupants with outstanding protection in the case of severe side impact. It helps protect the head from hitting the side window and being hit by objects penetrating the side window. In recognition of this remarkable protection, BMW was named "Safe Car of the Millennium" by the International Brain Injury Association. ISIS Intelligent Safety and Information System (ISIS) is a comprehensive passive safety system designed to enhance the restraint systems response to real-world accidents. Sensors placed around the vehicle help ISIS monitor impact force and deploy airbags, safety belt pretensioners, force limiters, and the Battery Safety Terminal. Should a power failure occur in the event of a collision, ISIS also provides reserve power for the entire safety system. WARRANTY INFORMATION BMW Full Maintenance. A whole different kind of fulfillment. Maintenance is one of many hidden costs to consider when you’re looking at a car’s sticker price. For most cars, that is. Fortunately, BMW offers one of the most comprehensive maintenance programs in its class. Not that service is needed often, only every 15,000 miles or so. Just about anything your BMW might need replaced or serviced—brake pads, wiper blades, oil change, checkup—is fully covered for 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first.* Which will save you money and simplify your operating instructions considerably: Fill with gas. Point to horizon. Go. Full Maintenance covers all factory-recommended maintenance on all MY 2004 vehicles and newer vehicles, as determined by the Service Level Indicator, for 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Exclusions from coverage: gasoline, gasoline additives, windshield washer additives, tires, wheels, wheel alignment, tire balancing and rotation. All work must be performed by an authorized BMW center. See the Service and Warranty Information booklet for more details and exclusions. All new BMW vehicles and dealer-installed accessories are covered by a 4-year/50,000-mile limited warranty, while the outer body is covered by a 6-year/unlimited-mile limited warranty against rust-through.
